"Clean Bahamas" is a business inspired by The Right Honorable Italia Johnson, former Speaker of the House of Assembly and the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture's Self Starters Prgoram. Its name and ideas were introduced by Maddam Johnson to the youth of Transfiguartion Baptist Church, and since then, the idea was brought to life by the efforts of Madaam Johnson, Mr. Clever Duncombe and I ( Renbert Mortimer II).

The Bahamas is basically the child of another project in the Bahamas ( Beautiful Bahamas) which will focius on landscaping and community development. After a successful trial run in Summer 2008, the program has now evolved to what it is today.

Partners for a Clean Bahamas, which is a community project involing Clean Bahamas equipment and financing, Transfiguration Baptist Church, and the community of Bain Town and Grants Town was offically launched August 7th 2008 through the broadcasting of ZNS ( Zephr Nassau Sunshine), and 50 young people in the Bahamas were given the opportunity to earn money through the proper disposal of trash.

The ‘Partners for a Clean Bahamas’ 2008 was a success. The program received $8,022.00 from sponsors and businesses. There were 50 participants throughout the course of the program. Seven of the students exited the program after 2 weeks for travels and college leaving the remaining 43 to receive a token of appreciation totaling $5950.00. Upon visiting the Ministries, 4 of the participants were rewarded with full payment for school uniforms. We used $60 for the purchase of gas to pick up and drop supplies. $348.42 was used for food, drinks, snacks and utensils. Ice had to be purchased everyday with costs ranging from $4.00 to $5.00. The company financed one of our supervisors airplane ticket to The United States Eccleria College to study Secondary Education and financing a medical bill for one of our summer participants. The program paid $100 for phone cards. There were other miscellaneous expenses such as the project’s trade name and logo. Some assets were lost like the misplacement of 2 rakes, the Urban Renewals water cooler totaling $48.50 (which Clean Bahamas paid for) and the accidental breaking of Renbert Mortimer’s car bumper by a participant. The Program thanks the office and staff of Transfiguration Baptist Church who was paid an estimate for printing and office space. There were payments made to bus drivers and other helping hands.

In conclusion, all but one expense was paid (bumper of the Program Director, Renbert Mortimer), and the program was able to touch lives and create opportunities.

‘Clean Bahamas’ has already received funding for summer 2009, by Sir Durward Knowles of Nassau Harbor Pilots Association and the program is willing to accept any other donations.

Again, we wish to sincerely thank each of our donors for their interest and faith in us as young Bahamians, and we look forward to you referring any size environmental   jobs to our youth network ‘Partners for a Clean Bahamas’ at telephone number (242) 436-1996 or (242) 362-2049 or email the program at clean_bahamas@hotmail.com.
